Biography?

{More Information} {Relations}

Found on the day the British settlers set foot on the "New Land," Virginia first became the colony of Jamestowne, or Jamestown in modern terms, her human name in honor of the "Virgin" Queen Elizabeth, the patron of the trip and the royalty on the English throne upon that year. It is also said that she was named after the Virginia Company which sponsored the trip to the colony, which the company's name originates back to one of England's best queens.

The rest of her past before 1607 mysterious, though she may have well been abandoned by the Powhatan and Cherokee Indians, finding her Anglo-Saxon looked odd. She could have been a lasting survivor of the failed Roanoke colony, along with her half-sibling North Carolina (possibly even the first British child born in America, Virginia Dare...?), and ending up near the Tidewater region. Don't ask her of her true past, though, as she would not answer you.

As the Jamestowne colony, she suffered through the rough hardships and hunger the colonists felt, even going through cannibalism and watching the rest of the men die in agony. However, after a few harsh winters within the fort and slowly receiving aid by the natives, she represented the thriving colony of Virginia, the first royal colony of the British Empire.

Upon the years as the British colony of America grew, gaining the other original thirteen through conquer or freedom of religious persecution, Virginia was, basically, the "pure and true" British colony of the thirteen. The sweet innocent child whom seemed tranquil even through early hardships had grown into a powerful, greedy, snobby teenager among her closer peers, though lady-like and kind towards England, her caretaker, and other visiting nations (but mainly England to keep her favored status). She was home of the wealthy landowners and royalty of England who was bored of their life on the island, and the few indentured servants finding their way of new life on the New World, and, of course, the slaves (an issue which Virginia first accepted, no matter how moral corrupted, and would effected the rest of her life).

When the Revolution hit, Virginia already had a small rebellion (Bacon’s rebellion, but that was more the British governor there wasn’t the best in the world, and the farmers in the area were mad, but that’s another story), but was overall extremely loyal. As said earlier, Virginia was one of the richest, prosperous colonies, and one that was more depended on England; even the domination she choose at the time was the Anglican Church of England. Though, yes, a lot of the Revolutionist were Virginians (Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Richard Henry Lee, Washington), and England did surrender in Yorktown, the majority of her state were still Loyalist through the war.

Once the war was over and America was a new nation, she was very involved politically and forming the new laws. However the selfish side of her began to form within the Virginia Plan for Congress and agreeing to the 3/5 Comprise. The more territory she gained to raise as the new states, the more selfish and power-hungry she become. Even when these territories became states and many citizens spread to the west (even after the Civil War with Manifest Destiny), she still felt authority and proper among her outlaw younger states and her old peers. While she acted sweet and happy towards most international visitors or to America when wanting something, there was always an atmosphere of prestige around her no one should ever deny.

Still, while her “Golden Age” lasted for awhile, she was always stuck in the middle for Southern and Northern cultures. She was considered more of a Southern state during the antebellum period, and, after going back and forth, decided to join the Confederacy, though it is probably the biggest regret in her life. She realized her “mistake” when West Virginia separated from her, which tore a big whole in her heart. While she became the capital and gained more power, the continuous battles in her states led her down to weakness; around 60% of all Civil War battles occurred in Virginia, mainly because it was the halfway point of the Confederates and Union, and the capital was an easy target.

After the surrender of Appomattox, she had fallen into a short coma after a suicide attempt. When she woke up she was mainly quiet and distant from mostly everyone, especially towards the northern states, whom she held a grudge on for a good while (until she eventually started to hang out with them more as such during the colonial period).

Later in the years, mainly after World War Two, she somewhat started going back to the normal self, though flashbacks and nightmares would appear, and leads more towards the bi-polar side. She had grown her relationships back, though, ironically, with the Northern states more than the South. This is because of the relation of the government given to her by Alfred as a second chance; 10% of Virginians work for the national government, along with plenty of naval bases in the East, and the CIA building, Arlington National Cemetery, and Pentagon in the north, and the communion of those Virginians to DC and back daily.

However, in present day, she is still not the strongest, and never will be the strong state she once was, though Virginia is one of the most educated (fifth) and richest states. Mostly everything in her state is centered around her past; the highest tourist attractions, besides Virginia Beach and the Appalachians Mountains, is Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Civil War and World War Two museums here and there.

Physical Characteristics

Probably the first characteristic which stands out for her are those eyes of two different colors; her left eye is green and her right is brown. This represents, literally, the boarder of northern and southern cultures; the left for the southern Va and right for northern Virginia. Before the Civil War, both eyes were green. From the Appomattox surrender to Reconstruction, the right eye shifted to the present day brown slowly ((there's is a scientific reason to this. Want to know? Personally note me.))

She has medium-long, just an inch or so past her shoulders, blonde hair, another easily noticeable trait. It's more on the brighter, sunshine blonde versus dirty blonde accustomed by her nation. It has always been more towards the longer time since childhood (even during the Roaring 20's with bob-cuts, preferring the more business, traditional hairstyle of the decade), but the majority of the time was put up like many women of earlier years. In fact, its current length is one of the shortest lengths it has been, the only exception was an inch shorter during the 40's World War Two period.

Look closely, and there is scar above her right eye. After the Civil War, losing much hope during the Reconstruction (and still haven't regained her statehood status), she had a suicide attempt, stopped by her old and future nation America, but ended with that one scar. She's pretty self conscious of the visible mark, believing it shows weakness and vulnerability of herself, often using make-up to lessen its visibility or a quickly moving a strand of hair to hide it.

For the other specific details important that are rarely seen or talked about, there are scars among her back, which is why she would wear one-pieces or feel extremely self conscious about wearing anything to expose the majority of her back. These scars, each representing many of the major Virginian battles, were during the Civil War, which lashes given to her by Union soldiers mistaking her as a regular upper class Southern Belle they kidnapped during one of their raids. The other is a scar on her left shoulder where a musket ball glazed during the America Revolution, as each of the thirteen colonies formed some scar from the war.

She has no set clothes, besides a navy uniform (because of the many naval bases) for national and the few international meetings. Most of the time, out and about, she'll probably wear the color navy, azure, white, or red blouse with jeans or dress slacks.

Virginia is the average height for women, and slender, though small love handles can peek out through super tight clothes, for the height, being on the bottom half of the least obese states (27 out of 50 as of 2011, so it's cutting it). She's not athletic much in any sense (no professional sports), though she can be competitive (college sport wise, with Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia). She's flat-chested, barely hitting a "B" cup, and barely has a butt to show. Lastly, she's pale, though can have sun-kiss tan skin during the summer when spending more time at the eastern shore.
